Grand Junction Media is a company that leans into innovation, but has at its heart old-school business principles. We believe in marketing that makes you more money. We believe in shooting straight, and that the bottom line is the bottom line.


We're an offshoot of Seaton Publishing Company. The company reflects its long-time chairman Edward Seaton, who passed last year. Ed was a serious person, went to Harvard, served as chair of the Pulitzer Prize committee, did all the homework. Raised millions for charity in his hometown. Read nothing but nonfiction. Coat and tie every day.


That is the kind of company he created: he learned it that way from his father and his grandfather, who bought the newspaper in Manhattan, Kansas, in 1915. Family roots in newspapers go back before the Civil War, including the first newspaper in Washington, D.C., the managing editor of the Chicago Tribune, and four members of the Kansas newspaper hall of fame. His sons carry on this legacy. These are not venture capitalists or hedge fund outfits, making a profit through accounting tricks or selling off the real estate. These are people who show up every day, work hard, and provide a real service both to the readers who rely on them to understand their communities and businesses who are serious about trying to reach customers.


We've done that through print newspapers in six no-nonsense Midwestern cities including Grand Junction via Grand Junction Media, in business since 1893, purchased in 2009 by Seaton Publishing. We've done it through a group of radio stations that we've operated since the 1950s and a group of radio stations in Western Colorado that we have owned for a ½ a decade. We've done it online since the mid-1990s, and we will do it better using the digital tools available now that fit into the values we've operated by for all those years.
